Sometimes you need them to make themselves known that way because nothing else they've tried works.
Today's the fifth anniversary of the suicide of my daughter's best friend, which was brought about by circumstances so grim our Gordon said it was the kind of thing you only heard about in old fairy tales or Japanese ghost stories. It was as dark a period as any I've experienced, and a time when my life felt completely devoid of hope.
It was made more hopeless when this girl's spirt lingered. She made herself known in ways so cliche they'd almost be comical: flickering lights, pictures falling from walls or tabletops for no reason.
